Was ist Bobbel Wolle eigentlich? - Chiemseegarn

What is Bobbel wool actually?

Congratulations, you've made it to our blog posts in the shop!

That either means that you are already an "old hand" when it comes to knitting or a newcomer and curious. As you may have already seen in our instructions, there are (almost) no limits to your creativity when working with Bobbel wool. One beautiful piece after the other can be conjured up from our gradient yarn.

And since, as is well known, no master has ever fallen from the sky, in today's post we will explain to you exactly what Bobbel wool is and how it is made.

Bobbles are yarns that are folded. This means that the individual fibers are not twisted together, but the threads lie next to each other. At the point where the color changes you will see small nodules. But you can easily process this and you won't see anything of it in your finished work.

What you can make from Bobbel wool, for example, are shawls, ponchos, scarves - knit or crochet, just as you like.

Depending on how colorful you want it, we offer our yarn in two to five colored combinations. The usual thread size is three or four threads. We offer our bobbles up to eight threads. Everyone needs a little practice at first, but you will quickly realize that working with this yarn is a lot of fun.

What needle size for Bobbel?

Which needle size you ultimately use is a matter of taste. Experimentation is probably the best way to find out. We offer here different knitting needles. Feel free to stop by!

If you don't like the pattern that is created, try it - simply unravel it and try a larger or smaller needle size until you like it.

For orientation:

  • 2-thread needle size 2.5mm-3mm
  • 3-thread needle size 2.5mm-3.5mm
  • 4-thread needle size 2.5mm-4mm
  • 5-thread needle size 2.5mm-4.5mm
  • 6-thread needle size 3mm-5mm
  • 7-thread needle size 3.5mm-6mm

What you should pay attention to:

The yarn you ordered has just arrived at your home and you want to get started right away. No problem if you pay attention to a few things.

  • Please do not poke the needles into the bobble
  • You can either knit or crochet the Bobbel from inside or outside
  • To make sure you don't accidentally drop the bobble, put it in a bowl or bowl
  • To avoid unsightly tangles, please never pull the thread forcefully

Where?

You might be wondering where gradient yarns originally come from. In fact, these were invented in 1985 in Beyernburg by the Wuppertal company Garnbleicher und Färberei by Wolfgang Hasenack. “Bobbel” as a term was only used a little later.

At the same time, the Radevormwald company developed a special twisting machine. Three to nine cones were placed on these and then wound onto a "wool winder" by hand.

The most common items of clothing that were initially made were sweaters and jackets. The corresponding instructions were created by the WGF Colcoton company from Wuppertal and brought them to the people through clever marketing and with the help of various (handicraft) magazines

There was a so-called "high" in knitting and crocheting in the 1980s. However, this demand decreased again in the 90s and the company sold its patents.

Nowadays you can find numerous offers on the web such as our Online Shop or in stores for knitting and crocheting.
